North by Northwest Suite | from The Sound of Cinema Suite

North by Northwest is one of my favourite Alfred Hitchcock movies. It manages to combine a thriller with romance and adventure, resulting in the prototype of the James Bond movie. All of these aspects are perfectly conveyed by composer Bernard Herrmann, who excels creating a score filled with tension, adventure and, especially, romance. To me, the romantic theme is the best part of the soundtrack, but others might disagree. To be honest Herrmann's romantic themes are exactly what I want from classic Hollywood scores!
