Nintendo Switch is getting the first new 2D Metroid game in nearly two decades, and it's perfectly positioned to be the best selling game in the franchise. @mrpyrostorm3165منذ 3 سنوات There are a heap of gamers who have never played a Metroid because they are just so young. Its been years since we had a new entry in the franchise so id="hidden4" class="buttons"> they are likely interested, especially when us older gamers talk about our first time playing the game. I am seeing people, young people, stream Super Metroid for the first time and getting very excited about it. Then there is Metroid Prime 4. That thing blew the roof off of E3 and it was just a Logo. The time is right for Metroid to have its biggest showing ever with Metroid Dread and Prime 4. ....وسعت 19

@Cee_Nellyمنذ 3 سنوات One other thing you didn't bring up about nintendo is that Nintendo designs its consoles so they are profitable from launch. When was the last time id="hidden10" class="buttons"> you heard about nintendo taking a loss on each console being sold like Microsoft and Sony? To me, it makes sense that Microsoft and Sony put their games on PC because their games are what bring them their profits. They really need great game sales in order to counter the losses from their console sales. Nintendo simply does not have that problem so there is no need for them to put their games on PC. Also, look at how many nintendo 1st party games are 10 and 20 million sellers.
Nintendo is in a really unique position as they are and I think porting their games to PC will only hurt them. Then the conversation will shift to how much better the games look and play on PC over the console and I don't think nintendo wants that.

@nimander5483منذ 3 سنوات As he said, A lot of the Nintendo business model has been to make hardware with some interesting features, and then make games that work well with that id="hidden11" class="buttons"> hardware.
That is why a lot of 3rd party games do not get ported to Nintendo consoles, the console is not designed for mainstream gaming, the console is designed to be something different from the rest of the market.
This goes back to the Wii with motion controls and even beyond to the Gamecube that was designed with a handle to make it easy to carry it with you and play on a friends TV. The gamecube had a lot of good Multiplayer games to cater for this.

@steven.d6492منذ 3 سنوات Not really sure what benefit releasing on PC would even have for Nintendo. Switch isn’t seen as a PC replacement (like a PS5 or Xbox would be) but rather a supplementary console so by not releasing on PC Nintendo gets $300+ from the console sale rather than only selling the software individually. Also when Nintendo sells 1st party software on the switch they get to keep 100% of the revenues rather than having to pay steam or epic a 30% cut to utilize their established PC storefront. Not trying to say it wouldn’t be nice if Nintendo did release on PC but from my perspective I just can’t think of a single reason it would benefit Nintendo to do so ....وسعت 2

@juanmanuelesis9797منذ 3 سنوات As long as Nintendo has a high focus on Hardware-software sales they will keep their games exclusive to their consoles. Without their exclusives, their id="hidden26" class="buttons"> consoles would be obsolete or at least they will lose a lot of value just like Xbox One, Series X|S and now PS5.
So as OJ said, companies have pride. Nintendo’s pride can tolerate people calling their consoles obsolete, low value, not worthy, etc.? If the answer is YES, they will do the same as Xbox and PlayStation. If the answer is NO, well you better keep buying Nintendo consoles to play their games.

@jairiskeمنذ 3 سنوات I would like to see older titles ported to pc. Nintendo has been setting a precedent recently of withholding official releases for decades old titles, id="hidden30" class="buttons"> so that they can sell full price at their discretion and it's a very lazy not consumer-friendly practice.
Besides that though, there are a lot of benefits to porting to a pc. Modding would become far easier and way more accessible. This has a wide range of uses from adding more controller options for those who are disabled, all the way to creating entire fan sequels.

@tyveris867منذ 3 سنوات I personally hope metroid dread sells huge when it is released. The idea that it can sell more than 3 million in it first year is possible but by no means id="hidden33" class="buttons"> a for sure thing. Sure there is a switch effect that has helped games like luigi's mansion 3 to 9millions sales, and helped fire elblem/pikmin to 2 million plus sales. At the same time we have a game like donkey kong tropical freeze only reach 2 million plus, mean while previous donkey king country games in the series have each reached over the 3 million lifetime, better than anything Metroid has done sales wise. Donkey Kong is arguably just as big, maybe even bigger than the Metroid series of games and missed out on the switch effect. The idea this will be someone's first metroid game is crazy when super metroid is available to play on nintendo online right now. In the end I think this will come down to people actually wanting to play a metroidvania style game, that is known to be niche and not the best of sellers despite how critically acclaimed some games in the genre are. I remember when the successor to Castlevania, Bloodstained, came out with all that hype around it, and only reach over million sales. Hopefully the hype can last to when Metroid Dread eventually comes out and not turn out to be another Metroid : Samus Returns ....وسعت

@traceries5201منذ 3 سنوات I think that article misses a fundamental point about how Nintendo views it’s own ecosystem. There is absolutely no way that they want first party games running at a much higher fidelity, frame rate, etc on a non-Nintendo platform.
There is parity for PlayStation and Xbox, especially on this new gen, but for Nintendo I think the difference would be substantial enough to do harm to the brand and sales of hardware.
Maybe if they had cross saves on everything so that people would want a PC and a Switch and also buy two copies of the game…that sounds financially beneficial but I still think the ego hit of seeing Mario blaze across a PC looking better than on a Switch would be too much for them to take. Fan hacks have already made them look bad by exceeding the performance of special edition rereleases on occasion.

So why would they share it with anyone else, and most importantly Sony and Microsoft has other technology division so they don't need focus on gaming hardware and IPs to sells. But Nintendo is a 100 percent gaming company and I believe they would want to dominate that market for as long as possible. Sony and Xbox are have not even come close to what Nintendo is doing and I am a fan of Sony myself with the console of PS 5.

@lo4trمنذ 3 سنوات The flaw in the argument about Nintendo bringing games to the PC, in respect to the newer games, is that they are arguing about why it wouldn't hurt id="hidden44" class="buttons"> them. The main thing isn't that it would hurt them to do so, but that there isn't actually an incentive. The Switch is still picking up massive sales numbers and the games are selling like hotcakes, even ones that most PC gamers wouldn't touch. So, for them to go through the effort to port games to PC, you would have to give a reason beyond 'it won't hurt'.
