Tony teams up with @Klayton Fioriti to talk about a film that they believe is the perfect sword and sorcery film! The first big screen adaptation of the classic Robert E. Howard character, Conan The Barbarian. Starring Arnold Schwarzenegger and James Earl Jones. Orphaned boy Conan (Arnold Schwarzenegger) is enslaved after his village is destroyed by the forces of vicious necromancer Thulsa Doom (James Earl Jones), and is compelled to push "The Wheel of Pain" for many years. Once he reaches adulthood, Conan sets off across the prehistoric landscape of the Hyborian Age in search of the man who killed his family and stole his father's sword. With beautiful warrior Valeria (Sandahl Bergman) and archer Subotai (Gerry Lopez), he faces a supernatural evil. @basementofmars1963منذ 2 سنوات Interesting little fact: They reused the same death scream when the guy gets the spike through the chest for the old Sega Genesis game Golden Axe. I only id="hidden15" class="buttons"> realized that after watching the movie a month ago.
Also the part with the evil spirits trying to take Conan reminded me a lot of Berserk where Guts is haunted by similar evil spirits. I kind of wonder if that was inspired by the movie. ....وسعت 6

- Klayton's impression of Arnie is absolutely on point!
- When you guys talk about the princess calling for "her father". id="hidden16" class="buttons"> I think she's calling Thulsa Doom her father.
But yeah, awesome video of an awesome movie, which is one of my favorites, an absolute 10 outta 10. And I do have that double-sized Cinefantastique as well! Bought it exclusively because of the stuff about Ron Cobb and got a bunch more about the movie! ....وسعت

It was shown on TV completely unedited so I loved sword and sandal epics for the fights scenes but these fight scenes made id="hidden22" class="buttons"> me cringe with how brutal they were. Yes, I like the fact Conan wasn't the "chosen one" or a great prince with an army. He was a horribly abused orphan out for revenge. He and his sidekicks never even consider, "maybe we shouldn't fight such a large highly trained and equipped force. We might get killed." Their attitude was always. "Of course we're fighting. I love the first 2 Terminator id="hidden25" class="buttons"> movies and Predator, but this is Arnold's best movie
the Milius/Arnold commentary is a classic where Arnold keeps talking about what the locals do with the grain from the Wheel of Pain and Milius changes the subject :-)

I kinda liked the bluescreen with Conan's father's little talk, it gave a surreal, otherworldly backdrop to the scene, like it's just evoking Crom's gloomy mountaintop world, rather than actually having climbed a high mountain in inadequate gear just to talk about gods and steel and stuff.
There was a "writing spells all over someone" in the Japanese ghost stories movie Kwaidan (1965) in the "Hochi the Earless" segment. ....وسعت
