#skara brae Whilst visiting the Orkney Island, a 'must see' day out is to visit the neolithic village of Skara Brae on the west coast of mainland Orkney, about 30 minutes drive from Kirkwall. The remains date back 5000 years and are thought to be the beginnings of this type of settlement that eventually spread south to England.
