Here's how to make a charming little embossed metal box out of an aluminium drink can. It's really easy to do and requires no special tools. The edges of the metal can be quite sharp though, so watch your fingers!

@terriberg29منذ 9 سنوات So pretty and you made it easy to see all the squares with the diagrams! I've always loved tin square ceiling tiles and wanted to use them, but they id="hidden2" class="buttons"> are very expensive! This is a great alternative and a great way to upcycle! @sinisterhipp0منذ 2 سنوات Oh shit! I’m subscribed to this channel more recently. And I just stubbled across this video. I think I saw this video and made a box probably close the time you realised the video. YouTube is much bigger now but I end up on your channel again. I don’t even need to watch the video the information for some reason has been retained in my head for over 10 years. ....وسعت 2

@leomorgan3105منذ 9 سنوات Five years later and still one of the most amazing craft videos out there.  I just can not believe that this is the only one of its kind, not only on Youtube, but anywhere that can be searched by Google, Ask, or Yahoo!  If I am wrong, please let me know where to find them (even though I doubt they would be the equal of this one).
P.S.  This is NOT a paid political advertisement.
    P.P.S.  "AtomicShrimp"?

@pernanjpمنذ 11 سنوات I haven't done this yet, but I've done similar "motions", and I agree. I think a full can would be easier than a flat sheet to handle id="hidden5" class="buttons"> because you don't need to anchor it to a surface and keep it still. It would be easy to hold one end while moving the sandpaper around the other end without missing any edges. Some people would even like to leave the paint on an use that as the outside of the box, without embossing. ....وسعت 6

@LovinglfDesignsمنذ 12 سنوات The aluminum used in soda cans in the USA is very thin and prone to snapping as many have discovered. It's possible to reinforce it using aluminum id="hidden6" class="buttons"> foil tape, which can be found in the electrical section at the hardware store. Embossing looks just as beautiful on the aluminum foil tape. An added benefit is that the aluminum foil tape is strong enough to seal the sharp edges. Use the aluminum foil tape on the inside of the box so the tape lines are hidden. Great video by the way. ....وسعت 1

@AtomicShrimpمنذ 12 سنوات You're right - it's worth practicing on a spare piece of metal to work out just the right technique. If you use too yielding a material underneath the metal, this can also cause the lines to cut through. 5

  • @
@leloodallasmultipassمنذ 13 سنوات @Magnulus you might try scoring the lines with a very large sized ball point pen so that the creasing occurs over a larger surface area, thereby distributing the stresses. 1
  • @
@AtomicShrimpمنذ 11 سنوات From experience, it's harder. When flattened, the metal has dips and bumps in it, which make it hard to remove all of the paint - also, it makes more id="hidden16" class="buttons"> of a mess. When the can is full, it's rigid and this makes it much easier to work on the surface. ....وسعت 7

@AtomicShrimpمنذ 12 سنوات Sorry to hear that. It sometimes happens - might be worth trying a completely different brand of can - and experiment a bit with different amounts of pressure id="hidden19" class="buttons"> when scoring the lines with ballpoint. Unlike card crafting, you can't fold this stuff more than absolutely necessary (so folding over then back will definitely crack the seam) ....وسعت 2

@DIYng2Liveمنذ 11 سنوات I agree, it is easier to remove the paint when full. Should you prefer to empty the can of liquid, first wash the can thoroughly and then I suggest filling id="hidden22" class="buttons"> the can back up with sand. The shape is not restricted to a box either. Pyramid shapes also work where an Egyptian theme can be applied. Thank you for the video! ....وسعت
